Boros Energy vs Tron 1-2
This article is part of a series on Boros Energy.
Game 1
Hand had curve through turn 3, with Seasoned Pyromancer to refuel. Not much interaction from opponent until turn 4. Easy win, mostly linear aggro lines.
Game 2
I lost game 2 because I was stupid.
Sideboard felt strong: 2 Obsidian Charmaw, Damping Sphere, a Blood Moon and Reprieve are all good against tron.
Good opening hand with two sideboard chards and Ragavan.
Ragavan connects, exiles Expedition Map and I get out an Obsidian Charmaw off the treasure, blowing up Urza's Tower.
On turn 4 I get out a Damping Sphere, but oponent gets it with Boseiju.
For the land from Boseiju I grab an Elegant Parlor and leave Arid Mesa on top, which I think was an error. I should be looking for Arena at this point, as I am holding Phlage.
Then, major error 1: Opponent gets out Ugin, the Spirit Dragon and I remove it with Galvanic Discharge, sacrificing a treasure. This later looses me the game. I did it because I misread what Ugin does, and thought it would wipe the tokens, which, of course, it didn't.
At this point, opponent is at 6 life and I have a phlage and four lands. I should still win. But major error 2: I fetch for a Sacred Foundry instead of Elegant Parlor, even though I didn't need to. (Still had open mana.)
At this point (18:45) I have 3 damage on board and 6 in hand against the opponent's 9 life, but I am short one mana, because of error 1. After that I don't recover.
Game 3
I kept a hand with a single land, but with a Ragavan. On the play that was mistake 1.
I don't find more lands, but Ragavan gets a treasure and I have a window to cast Damping Sphere, but instead decide to do that on the second main phase and attack first. I should have read what Oblivion Stone does - all the information was on board that it was going to remove the treasure. If I'd cast Damping Sphere first, Opponent wouldn't have the mana to activate Oblivion Stone right away. Probably still wouldn't matter, because they'd just do it a turn later.
The major mistake was not mulliganing.
Summary
- Opponent kept opening with Urza's Tower but that feels like you should play it last.
- I lost game 2 to one major error and two minor ones:
- Using a treasure instead of tapping a mountain in response to Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. This mistake lost the game.
- Fetching wrong and tapping wrong.
- Not digging for Arena of Glory and filling the graveyard.
- I lost game 3 because I kept a bad hand.
